We're glad you're here!
Hello and welcome to Circle Time! We envisioned this to be a place for the SUSS ECE Alumni Community to connect, grow, share and learn from one another.
Teaching can be an isolating practice. You’re in the classroom with one other teacher (sometimes, no other!) and the children for your whole shift. It can be overwhelming trying to manage deadlines, parent communication and school events all at once. It can be overstimulating with multiple things happening in the classroom. It can be easy to forget why you began in the first place.
That's where this webpage comes in—we want it to be your safe space. Here, we open up about the challenges we’re facing: improving classroom management, navigating the workplace politics, building relationships with parents, figuring out what we want to do as young teachers.... The list goes one! We support one another in joint pursuit of our dream for a more child-centred, meaningful and holistic early childhood education sector. We want to leave you feeling rejuvenated.
Here is what you can look forward in our growing space:
In Spotlight, we chat with your fellow alumni! We honour the experiences, passion and achievements of our graduates. They might be teachers, researchers, pursuing further studies and even doing ECE-related work that is not specifically teaching. If you’d like to cast a spotlight on a fellow alumni, reach out to us at ecealumni.suss@gmail.com.
In Voices, you’ll hear from our teachers on the ground - reflections, thoughts, struggles, and ideas. We celebrate what worked for us, evaluated what we want to do better, share our thoughts about strategies, methods and experiences that we have tried.
And we want to hear from you! If you have any insights, reflections or photographs to share, send them to us at ecealumni.suss@gmail.com. It can even be a short write-up of a few words - we’ll take whatever you’d like to share.
Check out past events that have happened, and any news of upcoming events in—you guessed it—Events! And finally, we know how exhausting it can be in the classroom. We want to lighten your load and keep you coming back for more! So, be sure to check out Resources for printable materials by your other alumni out in the field. You can also find helpful articles for yourself and to send to parents there, too.
Just like our children, Circle Time is a growing, evolving platform. We appreciate the time you will take to visit our page and if you have any feedback, we will gladly take it into consider. We are so excited for what's to come, and we would love for you to join this ride.
